It felt a great honor to create this work for the Thayer Symphony Orchestra, who approach their work with love and passion (half of the orchestra members volunteer). Hopefully music and sincerity are each expressed in this poster and program-book design.
A symbol derived from the calligraphed Hebrew letterforms that spell the word chevra, which means friendship; the organization feeds poor Russian Jews. The way the letters all shared a top and right bar, and that, when nested, they made a square shape, seemed to suggest perspective, a tunnel, and the light at the other end – the very meaning of friendship?
The 40-page book that celebrates Touchstone Community School's 25th anniversary tries to convey a unique and uniquely warm educational experience. It is an 8" square format in mostly monochrome (black, plus green and silver inks), that's been described as a keepsake.
An organization, called a guild, that recognizes exemplary customer service? How about a seal of approval?
Can a single symbol convey both the people of Israel and the idea of spirit (ruach in Hebrew)? For this synagogue, the solution came in the form of an ancient oil lamp from the middle east rendered with a graceful line that culminates in a dancing flame.
To inhabit the seriousness of the mission, Easter Seals' presentations are always two colors or fewer and with limited type possibilities. These can be used sometimes with a light touch at events (above), and sometimes for telling serious stories of facing adversity (as in "Update").
